Senior Spotlight | Hollie Thomas

Some students spend years finding their place. For Hollie Thomas, it took a willingness to step beyond her comfort zone and discover that community often begins with a simple decision to reach out. In just her second year at Life Christian Academy, she has grown from a quiet new student into someone who feels known, supported, and increasingly confident in who she is. As graduation approaches, the lesson she will carry with her is simple but significant: people are willing to connect with you when you give them the opportunity.

Hollie arrived at LCA as a junior, making her senior year only her second on campus. Although her time at the school has been relatively short, she has made the most of it. Last year, she participated in yearbook, and this year she has stepped into a student leadership role in ASB. She is also considering joining the school play later this year.

Perhaps the most noticeable change, however, has been personal.

“I’m not as shy as I was last year,” Hollie shared.

That growth has come, in part, through the relationships she has formed at LCA. When asked who has made a particularly meaningful impact on her, Hollie immediately mentioned Ms. Harris.

“I’ve been kind of going through stuff lately, and she’s been helping me through it,” she said.

That support has helped make LCA a place where Hollie has learned the value of letting others into her life. When asked to complete the sentence, “LCA has taught me...,” her answer captured one of the defining lessons of her experience.

“People are willing to connect with you if you let them, and if you reach out.”

Her time at LCA has also contributed to her spiritual growth. Hollie came to LCA with an already-established faith, but she says the environment has helped deepen it and draw her closer to God.

As she looks beyond graduation, Hollie plans to attend college and hopes to remain relatively close to home. While she is still considering her options, she already has a strong sense of the academic direction she wants to pursue: mechanical engineering. The field appeals to her because it brings together two areas she both enjoys and excels in.

“It combines math and creativity, which are the things that I like, and I’m good at,” she explained.

It is a fitting direction for a student who appreciates both structure and imagination and is ready to keep discovering where her abilities can take her.

Before she leaves LCA, she still has memories to make. Among her favorite school traditions are the dances and the Back to School BBQ, but what she expects to miss most is not a particular event or activity. It is the people.

For a student who arrived only two years ago feeling shy and unfamiliar with her new surroundings, that answer says a great deal about the journey she has taken. Hollie will leave LCA having discovered that meaningful community does not necessarily depend on how long you have been somewhere. Sometimes, it begins when you are willing to take the first step toward someone else.
