Alumni Spotlight | Owen Gibson

For Life Christian Academy alumnus Owen Gibson, Class of 2023, the lessons he learned and the relationships he built during his years at LCA continue to shape his life, even more than 2,000 miles from home. Now a senior at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas, Owen majors in Criminal Justice while pursuing his passion for public safety, leadership, and service.
Owen has embraced university life with the same enthusiasm and commitment that characterized his time at LCA. For the past three years, he has served as a Resident Assistant in Carter Hall, where he mentors first-year students, organizes events, and helps build a welcoming campus community. He also serves as a supervisor for Froggie 5-0, a student safety program operated by the TCU Police Department that provides evening transportation across campus, helping students reach their destinations safely.

His interest in public safety has also led to an internship with TCU's Public Safety Department, where he is gaining firsthand experience in the planning and coordination required to secure large-scale university events. Recently, Owen worked alongside TCU Police, Fort Worth Police, Fort Worth Fire, and Overwatch to support safety and security operations during a TCU football game. He further explores his career interests by participating in ride-alongs with local law enforcement agencies.

Beyond his professional interests, Owen serves as the operations officer for the TCU Trap and Skeet Club, participates on the Athletic Department's Game Day Operations team, and stays involved in Young Life and intramural sports. His academic achievements are equally impressive, earning recognition as a TCU Scholar and a place on the Dean's List. Despite his busy schedule in Texas, Owen stays connected to the South Sound, working in Life Center's Facilities Department when he returns home during school breaks.

Owen's passion for leadership and involvement began long before college. At LCA, he served as ninth-grade class president, sophomore school spirit representative, and Director of School Spirit during his junior and senior years. He was also active in ASB, served as a student anchor for LCAN, and participated in the Spiritual Leadership Institute (SLI) for three years.

Athletics were another significant part of his LCA experience. Owen played tennis all four years and served as team captain during his senior season. He also played golf, basketball, and track, and spent two years supporting the girls' basketball program as a videographer and team manager.

Among the many experiences that shaped his high school years, Owen identifies his senior mission trip to the Dominican Republic as the most meaningful.

"The Senior Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic was the most impactful experience of my time at LCA," he shared. "I was on the team that created the video of the trip and was able to see God at work in many locations across the DR."

Owen also credits the relationships he built with LCA faculty and staff for shaping his future. One mentor who stands out is Mr. McBeath, whose encouragement and willingness to discuss Owen's goals and aspirations made a lasting impression.

"He was someone I could go to talk about my goals in life and ideas for the future," Owen reflected. "He has made an impact on my life, and we still keep in touch."

As Owen approaches college graduation, he recognizes how significantly his LCA experience prepared him for the opportunities and challenges of university life. The foundation of faith he built in school continues to guide his decisions, while the friendships and relationships he formed remain a key source of encouragement and support.

"LCA has done so much for me and my life after graduation," Owen shared. "It gave me such a solid foundation for my faith, and being able to lean into my faith has helped me the last four years."

Perhaps one of the most meaningful aspects of Owen's LCA experience is that his connection to the school community has continued well beyond graduation. He remains close with former classmates, gathering with them when possible to reconnect and share life's milestones.

"LCA has given me lifelong friends, and we still get together as a class to catch up on life and see everyone," he said. "LCA is such a special place, and it has done so much for me. I am very thankful for it."

From leading school spirit activities at LCA to helping safeguard and support students at TCU, Owen continues to demonstrate a commitment to leadership, service, and community. His journey reflects the lasting influence of an education grounded in faith, meaningful relationships, and opportunities to discover and develop God-given gifts.

We are proud to celebrate Owen and look forward to seeing where his passion for public safety and service leads him next.
