High School Volleyball | Coach Selina Kelly
Now in her fourth year coaching at LCA, Selina Kelly has watched her High School volleyball team embrace every challenge with determination and an unwaveringly positive attitude.
While the team may be small, their spirit is anything but. Coach Kelly has especially enjoyed watching her athletes make tremendous progress throughout the season, including players who initially struggled to serve over the net developing into consistent, confident servers.
What makes this team especially remarkable is its resilience. When facing difficult opponents or challenging moments, these athletes refuse to give up. Instead, they adjust, encourage one another, and keep pushing forward.
Coach Kelly describes this group as the most coachable athletes she has ever worked with. Their willingness to listen, learn, and apply feedback has contributed to their impressive improvement throughout the season.
Perhaps the greatest recognition of their character came recently when a referee, who is also a volleyball coach, approached the team after a game to compliment their sportsmanship. She shared that their encouragement and positivity, even when the game was not going their way, represented some of the best sportsmanship she had ever witnessed.
For Coach Kelly, that recognition speaks volumes about her young women. They are learning to compete with courage, persevere through adversity, and treat others with kindness.
And of course, there is plenty of laughter along the way. One player has affectionately earned the nickname "Grandma" thanks to her old-soul personality and expressions like "golly gee." Her identity remains a team secret!
Middle School Volleyball | Coach Grace
In her first year coaching Middle School volleyball at LCA, Coach Grace is already seeing something special develop among her athletes.
In just the second week of practice, she challenged the girls to set goals for the season. Their unanimous first priority was to create a court environment where every teammate felt supported. That commitment to one another has become a defining characteristic of the team, alongside an impressive drive to improve. These young athletes are eager to challenge themselves, learn complicated rotations, and attempt higher-level plays.
Their growth has been particularly evident among several eighth-grade players who began the season with no previous volleyball experience. Through hard work and determination, these athletes have developed their skills enough to contribute to the Middle School varsity team.
Coach Grace is especially proud of her players' willingness to challenge themselves and their enthusiasm for learning. Their energy makes them exciting to watch and a joy to coach.
The team also knows how to bring plenty of Eagle spirit to game day! From spirited hair accessories and colorful hairspray to LCA pom-poms, these girls make sure their school pride is on full display every time they take the court.
Celebrating Our Eagles
Across both teams, our volleyball athletes are demonstrating the heart of LCA's core values, particularly Love Others and Speak Life. Their commitment to lifting one another up, persevering through challenges, and competing with integrity reflects the kind of character we hope to cultivate in every student.
We are proud of our Middle School and High School volleyball players and grateful to Coach Kelly and Coach Grace, who invest in these young athletes on and off the court. Go Eagles!
