Senior Spotlight | Dexter Sapien

Dexter joined LCA in eighth grade and quickly became involved in the life of the school. Throughout high school, he has participated in basketball, wrestling, and golf, while also taking on a leadership role through ASB as a male student representative.

Looking back, Dexter sees some of his greatest growth in the way he connects with others.

“I think I’m a lot more outgoing and a lot better with people,” Dexter shared. “Just living life with people and making new experiences and memories.”

The relationships he has developed at LCA have played an important role in that growth. When asked which teacher, coach, or mentor has made a particularly meaningful impact on him, Dexter pointed to Mr. Johnson.

“He’s kind of the pinnacle of a man that you want to be,” Dexter said. “He’s just the best guy.”

His time at LCA has also helped strengthen his faith. Through chapel, Jesus Club, and simply being surrounded by other Christians, Dexter says he has been encouraged to grow in his relationship with God.

After graduation, Dexter plans to attend Grand Canyon University, where he hopes to study business and minor in philosophy, two subjects that genuinely interest him. Eventually, he hopes to return home and take over his family’s business.

As graduation approaches, Dexter knows he will miss most of the everyday relationships and community that have become such a familiar part of his life. He especially mentioned the younger siblings within his friend group and the broader environment at LCA.

One tradition stands out among his favorite LCA memories: Macho Man. After participating last year, Dexter is already looking forward to taking part again during his senior year and, he hopes, earning a victory over the juniors.

Ultimately, the lesson Dexter will carry with him extends beyond academics, athletics, or any single high school experience.

“LCA has taught me to be more outgoing as a person and just enjoy every moment that you get, because you’re not going to get it back.”

As Dexter begins his final year at LCA, that perspective captures much of what his five years here have meant: building relationships, growing in faith, stepping outside his comfort zone, and appreciating the experiences and people that make this season of life worth remembering.
