Flying Start

Flying Start is the LCA term for dual enrollment classes. Our students enroll in online college classes and we offer them a special study hall period during the school day to facilitate work on the course. The grade the college awards the student is posted on BOTH the LCA high school transcript and the student’s college transcript. It is the student’s responsibility to provide LCA with a copy of their college transcript to receive high school credit for the classes. All college fees are payable directly to the college and cannot be routed through LCA billing.

What are the differences between dual enrollment and AP classes? With dual enrollment, you are taking a class directly from a college and the grade you earn will travel with you to whatever college you attend after high school. AP classes are taught by LCA teachers at the college level. At the end of the class, students take a standardized test. If they score well, colleges grant them credit, but the grade will not be included in their college grade point average. The exam fee per AP class is $100.
