Welcome to Advanced Placement Literature and Composition

Course Description: AP English/Literature and Composition is a rigorous college level course meant to challenge, educate, and enlighten students preparing to attend a four-year university. The course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature from various genres and periods, concentrating on works of recognized literary merit. Through close reading of selected texts, students will deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. Writing assignments in this course will focus on the critical analysis of literature. Assessment will be based on a variety of tests, quizzes, and essays.
