Description
This class is a survey of British Literature primarily centered on Britain. Because of the sheer scope of work, the various eras of English Literature will be quickly discussed and focused primarily on the classics of British Literature through the Romantic period. This focus is up to the instructor. The literature in this course will be primarily by British authors and will be studied by genre, major literary movement, literary devices and social significance. This reading will be the starting point for various writing assignments which may include journals, essays, and reflective analyses. Reading will primarily be completed in class along with discussions, presentations, and weekly vocabulary work. Students will work both independently and at times in small groups. They will be responsible for sharing research they conduct with the class and participating in seminar-style discussions. The course will engage students to become strong readers, sound communicators in written and oral forms, independent and critical thinkers, and collaborative constructionists of meaning.

Remote Journal #4—April 13-17

Here are your journal topics for this week. Remember ideally you will do this once a day. I would recommend copying and pasting it into a document that you open daily and then email to me on Friday. Do NOT do it in ONE SITTING!!! This is a practice I am trying to get you to engage in and doing it all at once does not reinforce that practice. Please also be mindful of the sentence count. :)

Monday, April 13th—I know we are already behind by a day—sorry! Tell me about your Easter. Did you do anything fun? New? Impactful? 5-7 sentences if you please and thank you.

Tuesday, April 14th—If you had to move to another State in the United States, where would you want to move and why? 5-7 sentences again would be grand

Wednesday, April 15th—It is tax day—does that mean anything to you? Seriously though—what are your thoughts on what is going to happen to the economy after the COVID thing is cleared? 5 sentences minimum—feel free to rant.

Thursday, April 16th—Think of two things you love about each season (hint—there are 4 seasons) and tell me what they are and why. So you should have at least 8 sentences but you will need more to do a good job.

Spring 1)

2)

Summer 1)

  2)

You get the picture…

Friday, April 17th—Wait for it…do you know what is coming? WRONG!!! No Free Write this week—just talk to me about something you LOVE! It could be a significant other, like your favorite Grammie, or a pet, or a place or a food or…write for 7 minutes about the thing you love.

Make sure to email this to me before 8:00PM— I love to read these with my Saturday morning coffee. :)

Remote Learning Journal #3--Due Monday, April 13th by 8pm
Once again, DO NOT DO THESE IN ONE SITTING. My suggestion is that you cut and paste the questions into a document and then answer one a day as a way to start or finish the day of schooling. Make sure you take note of the sentence requirement.

4/6--Tell me about 1 T.V. show you watched during the week we had "Spring Break". Based on what you know of my personality would I like or dislike it? Why?
5-7 sentences should do for this entry. You are always welcomed to do more, but less will lose you points.

4/7--HOw is Zoom working for you? For my class? For other classes? Do you love/hate it? Why? 5-7 sentences please

4/8--So, remote learning for the rest of the year...your thoughts? Be candid, genuine, honest. At least 5 sentences and you can rant as long as you like on this one.

4/9--Cats or Dogs--make a solid argument in favor of one OR the other, you can fence sit and say you like both. 5-7 sentences please and thank you.

4/10--We will round out the week with a FREE WRITE--WRITE IT LOUD, WRITE IT PROUD. Set that timer for 7 minutes--put your headphones on, ear buds in, ignore what is happening outside your body and go inside the great vault of inspiration in your mind...faithfully record what your thinking is.

Please email this to me no later than 8:00PM on Monday night.

Commas for Clarity--No Red Ink
There are three parts to this assignment. I am putting them in separately so you know when each is due. There are specific times the parts open and close so you can't just sit and power through in one go around. You have to pace yourself.
Diagnostic is due tomorrow 4/8 by 3:00--this is worth 10 points for getting it done. Points will be deducted for it being late (the system shows me who is late).
The practice is due on Thursday--it opens at 0800 on the 8th and is due by 3:00PM on the 9th--that is Thursday. The practice is worth 20 points.
The final quiz is due on Friday--it opens at 0800 on Friday the 10th and is due by 8:00PM that same day. The quiz is worth 40 points.
If you are having any trouble getting into the system, you need to let me know immediately. These grammar lessons are ones we will be doing weekly. :)
