- Description
-
This class is a survey of British Literature primarily centered on Britain. Because of the sheer scope of work, the various eras of English Literature will be quickly discussed and focused primarily on the classics of British Literature through the Romantic period. This focus is up to the instructor. The literature in this course will be primarily by British authors and will be studied by genre, major literary movement, literary devices and social significance. This reading will be the starting point for various writing assignments which may include journals, essays, and reflective analyses. Reading will primarily be completed in class along with discussions, presentations, and weekly vocabulary work. Students will work both independently and at times in small groups. They will be responsible for sharing research they conduct with the class and participating in seminar-style discussions. The course will engage students to become strong readers, sound communicators in written and oral forms, independent and critical thinkers, and collaborative constructionists of meaning.

Remote Journal Prompts #5—Week of April 20-24
Here are you journal topics for the week. Remember—you are supposed to do these one a day and then turn them in on Friday. We are working on making writing a daily process, not a marathon event. Please embrace the process. :)
Monday 4/20—If you could have any super power what would it be and why? 5-7 sentences please.
Tuesday 4/21—If you could have any kind of car—what would it be and why? 5-7 sentences please.
Wednesday 4/22—What is one of your pet peeves ( a pet peeve is something that really annoys you)? Explain what it is and why you think it bothers you. 5 sentences minimum.
Thursday 4/23—Describe your best personality trait. 5 sentences minimum.
Friday 4/24—This is the last Friday in April. Next Friday will be the 1st of May. Tell me the best thing that happened to you during the month of April. Be specific. Be descriptive and be honest!

Remote Journal #4—April 13-17
Here are your journal topics for this week. Remember ideally you will do this once a day. I would recommend copying and pasting it into a document that you open daily and then email to me on Friday. Do NOT do it in ONE SITTING!!! This is a practice I am trying to get you to engage in and doing it all at once does not reinforce that practice. Please also be mindful of the sentence count. :)
Monday, April 13th—I know we are already behind by a day—sorry! Tell me about your Easter. Did you do anything fun? New? Impactful? 5-7 sentences if you please and thank you.
Tuesday, April 14th—If you had to move to another State in the United States, where would you want to move and why? 5-7 sentences again would be grand
Wednesday, April 15th—It is tax day—does that mean anything to you? Seriously though—what are your thoughts on what is going to happen to the economy after the COVID thing is cleared? 5 sentences minimum—feel free to rant.
Thursday, April 16th—Think of two things you love about each season (hint—there are 4 seasons) and tell me what they are and why. So you should have at least 8 sentences but you will need more to do a good job.
Spring 1)
2)
Summer 1)
2)
You get the picture…
Friday, April 17th—Wait for it…do you know what is coming? WRONG!!! No Free Write this week—just talk to me about something you LOVE! It could be a significant other, like your favorite Grammie, or a pet, or a place or a food or…write for 7 minutes about the thing you love.
Make sure to email this to me before 8:00PM— I love to read these with my Saturday morning coffee. :)

- These are your journal topics for the week. Please complete them in a word document and email them to me at [email protected] if you are in my section and email them to Ms. Margaret Haskins at [email protected] if you are in her section:
- #1 What are you looking forward to as a remote learner?
- #2 Describe in as much detail as you can what you are looking at right now? NOT the computer screen--your surroundings.
- #3 Free Write for 7 minutes. Set a timer, do not stop writing for the entire time. Do not try to stay on topic, just go where your brain wants you to go.
