7th Grade Language Arts (Period 5) Assignments

Vocab. Lesson 16 ex. 1-4 due tomorrow

Vocab quiz lesson 16 tomorrow. 

We have finished, "The Giver." I have attached a study guide that students will need to fill out. Because of testing, I won't see most of the 7th graders in normal class periods, so I am attaching the study guide now for them to start filling out. 

Students were assigned chapters 13 & 14 of The Giver for reading. Most, if not all of this reading, was completed in class. They will have a pop quiz on the reading tomorrow. 

Students need to have read through chapter 11 of The Giver by tomorrow in class. there will be a pop quiz based on the reading. 

For the past 2 days, we have been working on Parts of a Sentence: Subjects and Predicates. Today we covered predicates. Attached are the notes and assignments given out to the students. 

Reminder, our 7th graders have a grammar test tomorrow (3/22) and looking over this review sheet will be extremely helpful. 

Using Right Word 4 was worked on in class today. Here is a copy for those that were not here today. 

Due tomorrow (3/14) I have attached both the notes and the assignment. 

Today, the students worked on peer editing of their rough drafts in class. I let the students know that they could start working on their corrections at home, but if not, we will be spending time in the computer lab tomorrow in class to make needed corrections. Their FINAL drafts, with all the corrections, will be due on Friday, March 8th

My apologies as I did not update my page Monday morning; however, the students have been working in class on typing their 5 paragraph papers on Brian's Song. We have utilized both yesterday and today in class to type out their rough drafts (which they should just be copying what they wrote from their outline) and I invited them to work on typing at home as well. THese rough drafts are due tomorrow, Wednesday 3/6. We will utilize tomorrow's class to peer edit. They will turn in a final draft on Friday after they make all the needed corrections. 

Many students have been sick this week and/or will be traveling to Spokane for the basketball tournament. Due to this, I have decided to extend our rough draft assignment that was given to the 7th graders on Monday to NEXT Monday, March 4th. The students are to fill out their packets (see attachment) and be prepared to turn it in next Monday. This has been an in-class assignment this week, but I am learning that the students are needing a little more time. 

Today we went over lesson 11 in our vocabulary books. Even if students were absent today, it is their responsibility to go over the new words, and finish exercises 1-4 by Wednesday, 2/19 which we will have our normally scheduled quiz. 

To my 7th graders, I have attached a permission slip for parents to sign. It is to gain permission to watch the teleplay, "Brian's Song." We plan on starting the film tomorrow (2/20) so it is vital that this is turned in on time. I have sent this home with students, but i know that sometimes they tend to misplace things, so see attachment just in case. 

A friendly reminder that even though we have had a snow day this week, we will still have our scheduled vocabulary quiz tomorrow (Wednesday) on lesson 10. Ex. 1-4 will also be due. 

Today we worked on Apostrophes 2. The students were given notes, and a worksheet. I have attached both. Lastly, a reminder that students have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow and also their ex. 1-4 for lesson 9 is also due. 

This week, we are working on Apostrophes. I have attached the notes and a worksheet given to the students that will be due tomorrow, 1/15/19

Comma worksheet #3 was discussed in class today. A worksheet was given after. Most students finished in class, but if they did not, it was given as homework. I have attached the notes and worksheet for those that were not in class today. 

 

Lastly, Students have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow and ex. 1-4 in lesson 8 are due as well. 

The 7th grade students were given a project for a speech they are preparing. It requires a few supplies. Please open each attachment to see. These speeches will be done on 12/13, 12/14, and 12/17

7th graders will have an American Sign Language test on this day. I have attached the words that will be covered on the test. I am also sharing a link from youtube that will help with the signs just in case they forget how to sign a certain word. https://youtu.be/ianCxd71xIo

Reminder: All students have a vocabulary quiz tomorrow (11/14) for lesson 5. Also, exercises 1-4 from lesson 5 are also due. 

Students are to re-write these questions (handwritten) and answer them. 

 

1. Describe 3 conflicts that Rikki-Tikki faces. Which conflict do you think is his greatest challenge and why? 

 

2. Like all great heroes, Rikki is celebrated by the society he saves. How does Darzee's chant make Rikki into a superhero? What kind of music would you set the song to? (See attached file)

Our 7th graders just finished reading and watching, The Call of the Wild. Their assignment tonight is to create 10 test questions, and answers based on the book. Tomorrow, we will create our study guide based on the students' responses. 

The 7th graders have finished our novel, The Call of the Wild. Their assignment given today is they must pretend that the publisher did not like the ending of the book. They must now re-write the ending of the book in their own words. This must be handwritten, and a minimum of 1 page of lined paper. The ending must be completely different that the story we read, and should not be filled with sadness. They are being graded on creativity. 

Vocabulary Lesson 1, exercises 1-4 will be due on Wednesday. There is also a vocabulary quiz this day as well. 

Students were given a worksheet on Chapter 2 of Call of the Wild. They need to find 3 examples of Imagery in chapter 2 and write them down word for word. Each student was allowed to take a book home with them and need to be returned with their assignment tomorrow. 

The students were given a "Lost Dog" worksheet that goes with chapter 1 of The Call of the Wild.
