Is learning to say "thank you" the same as being thankful? How do we know if someone is really thankful, or sorry, when they are simply using their manners?
We would like to share this article written by Julie A. Riess. It discusses how we might know if we are truly raising a thankful child.
"Teaching manners is a fine art of modeling, but not always the making of meaning. Raising thankful children is a fine art of helping them make their own meaning. Maybe it is a rumpled, crayon-scribbled card. Maybe it is a fresh bouquet of dandelions (and a few other weeds) from the backyard or local park. Maybe it is just a warm hug after a cold ice cream treat."
My son is always sure to pick the best dandelion in the yard for me and is SO excited to give it to me. I have to remind myself that it is all about the heart, his heart for gifting, and my heart of gratitude. Remember, it is important to model a grateful heart to our children.
*It can be as simple as remembering to begin your prayers with praise and thanksgiving.
*Make a thankful list together as a family. This has a way to reset our hearts, and remind us, we have SO much to be thankful for.
*Have a thankful box at the dining room table, so you can write notes throughout the month of what you are thankful for.
We are thankful for you! Thank you for choosing Life Christian Academy! We love partnering with you, as we have the opportunity together to guide your children in their learning.
"Give Thanks to the Lord because He is good, because His faithful love endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34
