ELL A/B (Period 1)
Course Description
In this low-intermediate course, the first in the 3-level ELL sequence, students will develop their basic skills in speaking, listening, writing, reading and grammar usage and expand their English vocabulary. An emphasis will be placed on grammar, vocabulary and American culture. More specifically, the focus will be on:
- grammar elements, especially verb tenses, nouns, and noun modifiers and adjectives;
- learning 300 of the words from the Academic Word List,
- various aspects of American culture
- academic English skills such as note taking, source documentation, understanding cursive writing, decoding instructions, etc.
Students will learn and be assessed through homework, quizzes, tests, writing assignments, presentations and projects. The skills and knowledge learned in this course will help support student learning in their other courses and will prepare them for advancement.
