French 7

Fourth year French is a course that continues to build on the basic skills learned in French 5/6. Basic vocabulary and grammatical structures will be reviewed and expanded through the use of both visual and auditory materials. Students will review the major tenses already learned plus become familiar with such new tenses as the future, the conditional, and the pluperfect. They will learn how to express emotion and possibility with the subjunctive, and they will learn the French passé sample as a literary tense. Vocabulary will include such topics as home and furnishings, household tasks, clothing, travel, countries of the world, and forms of transportation. Students will expand their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing the French language. A greater emphasis will be placed on reading for comprehension, including cultural materials as well as short stories and short novels.
