French 3, 4 (Period 3) Assignments

Bonjour mes étudiants!  Voici les devoirs pour aujourd'hui:  Here's the homework assignment for today:  1) Read over carefully the grammatical explanations of negative expressions and "quelqu'un" and "quelque chose" on textbook pages 346-347.  2). Write out textbook exercise #10 in p.347.  Write both the question and the answer for each item using either "quelqu'un" and "ne......personne" or "quelque chose" and "ne.....rien". 3). Write out textbook exercise #2 p.348 telling me places you have never visited or seen and also places you have visited. Use the passé composé and also the expresssion "ne.......jamais." Bonjour mes étudiants!  Voici les devoirs pour aujourd'hui, le 20 mai.  Here's today's assignment:  1) Attend our Zoom meeting today at 10:15 a.m.  2) Read over carefully textbook p.342, Le passé composé avec être.  3)  Write out textbook exercises #1 and #3 p.343.  For exercise #1, please write out the complete sentence.  Don't just fill in the blank.  In exercise #3, use each of the subjects in column A, and say what they did (passé composé) choosing from the list of activities in Column B. Also write a sentence saying where they went, using the verb "aller" in the passé composé and one of the places from Column C.  Follow the example given in red at the bottom of the exercise. Take some time to review the Lesson 23 material on the verb "voir", the passé composé of IR, RE, and irregular verbs.  3) Complete exercise #4 p.339, writing a composition on what you did last week.  Write 12-15 sentences, and feel free to use your imagination as you move through the list of topics given you.  Please cover everything in the list as well as any other activities you want to discuss.  Write in the past tense, using the passé composé. You can use some of the time expressions from the yellow box vocabulary on p.336 to help pinpoint your activities over the course of a week. Also note the new vocabulary that is underlined and defined for you. 2) Write out in English a translation of the alibi's of the 4 people who were questioned, (the information contained in the 4 colored boxes) and include who you think committed the crime.  3) Write out in French the answers to the comprehension questions on p.331 and also complete the "Et toi?" exercise.  4) Read through the "Note Culturelle" on p.331 and write for me In English what you learned about French young people and their TV habits.  Have a great day! Pourquoi?"). 4)  Write out exercise #10 p.336.  For each numbered item, you will write 3 sentences. Your will use the verb "être" in your first sentence, and then the verbs in parenthesis for the 2nd and 3rd sentences. Please memorize the present tense conjugation of this verb. 4) Read over textbook p.332 and write out textbook exercises #1 and #2 from that page, using the verb "voir."  Please send these exercises to me no later than Tuesday, May 5th.

Read the bottom half of p.32, which is in English, entitled: "What you need to know."  Then read the 2 articles on pages 33, 34-35 (Le roller:  un sport qui roule!  et L'equipement du roller!) Note that vocabulary is defined for you in English at the bottom of these pages (note the tiny numbers within the text the tells you a word is defined for you).  2) Complete the exercises on pages 36-37 and send them to me.  You can either type out the answers and email them, or take photos and send them to me as attachments.  Hope you enjoy this reading.   We will Zoom on Friday at our usual class time:  10:15 am.  Look for the Meeting ID and Password on an email tomorrow. Please send this to me no later than Wednesday, April 15th:  We are finishing up our work on Lesson 21 today.  1) Review the yellow box vocabulary from this lesson.  2) Use exercises #2 and #3 on textbook p.316 to write a composition on the activities and sports that you participate in. Use exercise #2 as a basis for your first paragraph, making plans for next weekend.  Write using the immediate future:  Je vais + infinitive.  Use vocabulary from this lesson to demonstrate your familiarity with it.  What are you going to do on Friday night?  Saturday during the day? Saturday evening?  Sunday? Go into as much detail as possible. Include activities both at home and outside. Use exercise #3 as a basis for your second paragraph.  Use the present tense (je fais, je regarde, je joue....) to discuss in detail what you do/ what sports you participate in during summer vacation, in winter, and in any season throughout the year.  Discuss where you do these sports/activities and with whom. Please read over your 2 paragraphs and check for spelling and grammar.  Think through and apply what we have learned.  Do not use a translation tool to write your paragraphs!! 2). Write out exercise #5 p.317 as a directed dialogue.  For example your conversation in French will go like this:  Helen, where are you going this summer? I'm going to the ocean with friends.  Are you going to travel by car?  No, we are going to travel by train because we don't have a car.  Are you going to go sailing?  Yes, and I am also going to windsurf.  Good-bye Helen, have a good vacation.  Good-bye.  (Try to be as accurate as possible in your language.)

So for today please complete the following:  1) Complete workbook pages 185-186.  The number 2 section on p.186 should be completed in the immediate future, using a form of the verb "aller" + an infinitive (Il va rencontrer....) Please use primarily vocabulary from lesson 21 to demonstrate to me that you know and are able to use this material. Please answer the questions in section 3 using complete sentences and also using vocabulary and expressions from lesson 10.  2) Complete the Unité 7 Leçon 21 warm-up exercises (back and front).  This is a handout that I gave you on our last day of class together.  3) Also complete the crossword puzzle on sports. Just complete with a sport; no articles.    Just to remind you, we have started work on Lesson 21, a lesson covering vocabulary dealing with activities in the home and on vacation as well as the sports we participate in.  Here's your assignment for Monday, April 6th:  Review the yellow box vocabulary on p.310 on weekend activities.  Carefully read over and study the yellow box vocabulary on textbook p.312 dealing with vacation activities. You should be able to translate accurately each and every sentence, though you do not need to write translations out.  Practice this vocabulary (from pages 310 and 312) by either making flash cards of the words in bold or by writing them out with definitions on a separate piece of paper.  We will be using this vocabulary in the next 3 lessons, so it is essential that you learn them. Read through the "Note Culturelle" on p. 313 "Les sports d'hiver" and write out an English translation of this reading, which you will turn in to me.
